Customers can be helpful too
A customer at a national retail store was having trouble finding a particular item. An employee standing nearby noticed and offered to help. He looked at his item tracker and showed the customer where it should be on the shelf, the customer bent down and looked at the very back of the bottom shelf and saw two boxes of what she was looking for. Because she only wanted one, she brought the other forward to the front of the shelf so that it could be better seen by other customers.
The employee was surprised that the customer would help out the store in this way, but the customer felt that he had helped her find the item, the least she could do was help him out since she was already kneeling on the floor and looking on the bottom shelf.
Customers are generally willing to help especially when they have an experience of others helping them. Most people want to help others and look for opportunities to do so. Why not help each other when we find these moments whether we are a customer, employee, or the CEO? Pay it forward, be kind, be thoughtful and all the rest.
