Some customers are persnickety. But that doesn’t mean that they are trouble.

A local business had a customer that was very clear on what she wanted. She voiced her expectations but then backed off leaving the business to do their work.

She hired them because they were experts in their field. She had specific ideas about what she wanted them to do, but she had no interest in micromanaging the work.

Customers like this may appear to be difficult, but actually they are wonderful for a business. They don’t make an organization guess or try to read their minds. Instead, these customers will be upfront about what they want. Then, it’s up to the business to figure out how to do it.

So, as a business owner, don’t complain if a customer is demanding. Thank them for giving you clarity on their desires. Thank them for voicing their opinions in a way that is understandable. Customers who won’t tell you what they want but who expect you to know are worse for your business. How can you meet expectations if you don’t know what they are? Customers who are willing to tell you what their expectations are, but don’t tell you how to go about meeting them, are the customers who are in reality easier to deal with.

If a customer seems demanding with their requests, appreciate them. They are telling you exactly how to win them over.
