Most online businesses have an automation to send out a thank you email directly after a sale. But how many make an effort to show appreciation for the sale, and also the customer, in a not-so-mindless way?

It may be a small gesture, but thank you notes slipped into packages, or even thank you emails sent days after a purchase, sends a message to customers that you are still thinking of them even after you’ve “cashed their check.”

It doesn’t take much effort to do these things, but it is still extra effort and customers notice. As customers, we want to know that our purchase was appreciated.

When you send a thank you card in the mail to your mother for sending you a birthday gift, she is not only more likely to send you another one next year, but will also put more thought and consideration into the gift idea.

Customers are similar – if you make an effort for them, no matter how small, they are more likely to make an effort for you (as in purchase from you again).

Saying “thank you” is so simple but so incredibly powerful.
