Complaining about a sale?
A customer recently visited a shop to get a propane tank filled. The weather is turning warmer and it’s almost time for BBQs.
The employee who helped him, however, was fed up with all of the customers coming in for propane. He complained to the customer that no one was buying tires. Only propane.
Now, maybe he was given an incentive by his manager or the corporate office to sell tires; but when the weather gets warm, customers want propane. If it was an incentive handed down by corporate or his manager, it was incredibly short sighted. The need for propane and not tires at this time of year isn’t something new. It happens every year.
The organization, the management and/or the employee need to recognize where customers are right now. What is going on in their lives? What are their current needs? And then plan accordingly.
It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.
