You like me, right now, you like me!
Sally Field got it right – there is no better feeling than to be appreciated and to feel welcomed. Customers want the same thing.
At a big box hardware store, that can so easily fall prey to a less than personal customer interaction, an employee made genuine connections with each of his customers. It was reminiscent of the local hardware store days of old where you could state your problem to an employee and they would pull five items from an aisle ready to solve it.
It doesn’t take much to treat your customers with thoughtfulness creating a genuine human connection, but the payoff is huge.
Especially now when we are all craving more human interaction. Those few moments of kindness between an employee and a customer go further than ever before. A few months ago, an interaction with a stranger might not mean so much, but now, in the middle of a global pandemic with social distancing, kindness from a stranger takes on a whole new meaning. If you utilize these interactions to show your appreciation and show that you care about them, your customers will show that they care about your business.
